72 & 800 miles

Oliver Seikel (charmingly–pronounced “cycle”), age 72, biked over 800 miles from Ohio to Cambridge, Massachusetts to get to his 50 year class reunion at MIT.   Pretty incredible!

Back in, and out of, the saddle

Ever notice it never rains when you want it to? The skies looked like they were going to open up on my ride, which would have been fine by me, but they never did. I do NOT want it to rain this afternoon. Any takers? I rode up to work today just to see how [...]

Ladies Mountain Bike Night #1 Report

Last night kicked off what I hope to be a regular thing: Ladies Mountain Bike Night. We had a lot of interest and some scheduling conflicts, so our first ride netted 2 new SCAG riders: Heidi and Alison.
Heidi I met in an unusual way. Last summer when gas prices were at record highs, it seemed [...]

An extra 10

It took an extra 10 minutes to get to work on the Fuji today. I wanted at least one trial run before I tried it on a work day. The Fuji has a double chainring (36/46) and the Specialized a triple (30/42/52). I was a wee bit concerned because I have not been riding as [...]

It is not an addiction

Last year I managed to commute to work on my bike a few times, but only once a week. I had to bring food and clothes the day before because I was using my Specialized Allez Comp and had no way to carry stuff. That has all changed with my latest addition. I fitted my [...]

Red Rocks or The Garden of Angels

I was here one week ago today.
Seems a little weird and distant and faraway now. I flew out to Colorado for a weekend, which really only gave me one full day of fun. But I had a blast, and snapped this picture.
I did not, however, get to ride my bike. Insert collective sad face here. [...]

Oh right, it’s Eastern Standard Time now

I headed out to do some errands and grabbed the bike light as an afterthought. Good thing because I needed it ten minutes into the ride. It was the first ride since I installed the new saddle on the DB, and I really liked it. I also had to do some adjustments on the Topeak [...]

On track for 2000

After ride number two today, I am just shy (94 miles) of my 2008 mileage goal of 2000. In order to make sure I will be able to continue to ride outside, I purchased the Topeak Drybag panniers today. Now, no matter what New England dishes out for weather, I will be ready. I also [...]

Ride #1: The Break-up

Crash!
Boom!
Bang!
The love affair with Joby is over. This was my third gorillapod, and it was allegedly their new, beefier model. This one lasted one month and nine days. My first one lasted nine months and the second gorillapod not even one. The difference this time, as you can see in the photos, [...]
